We run one shared tour and three private ones, and people ask which to pick almost every day. The answer is genuinely not always the expensive one. Here is how the two differ, and who each suits.
The shared group tour
€30 per person, five to six hours, up to twenty guests, departing Saranda port at 10:00 or 11:00. Fixed route: Turtle Cave, Gremina, Roidhe Bay, three hours at Krorez Beach, Kakome and Secret Beach. Drinks on board are included.
What you give up is control. The route does not change, the timings do not change, and you are sharing the boat with up to nineteen other people. What you get for that is a full day on the water for roughly the price of lunch.
The private charters
Three routes, all quoted on request: Private Ksamil for the most photographed beaches and islands, Tongo Private for a quieter run to Pema e Thate and Tongo island, and a two-hour sunset cruise with drinks included.
On a private you set the departure time, you pick the stops, and the only people aboard are the ones you brought. If someone wants another twenty minutes in the water at a cove, that is a word with the captain rather than a group vote.
The decision, in four questions
Is this day about the coastline, or about the occasion?
Coastline: take the group tour. It visits more places than any of the privates, because it has more hours to work with. Occasion — a proposal, an anniversary, a birthday, a group who want to be loud together — take a private.
How many of you are there?
Two to four people: the group tour is dramatically better value, and a private only makes sense if the occasion justifies it. Six to ten: the gap narrows a lot, because a private splits across more heads. Above ten, the group tour is the only option that fits you all on one boat.
Do you care what time you leave?
The group tour goes at 10:00 or 11:00. If you want late-afternoon light, or you have a ferry to catch, or you simply do not want a 10:00 start on holiday, a private is the only way to move the clock.
Is anyone likely to want out early?
Worth being honest with yourself about. Five to six hours on an open boat is a long day for small children or anyone who burns easily. The two-hour sunset private exists partly for this reason.
Why we do not list private prices
Because a single number would be wrong for most enquiries. A two-hour sunset run for four and a full-day Ksamil route for ten in August are not the same job, and quoting the higher figure for both would put people off a trip they could comfortably afford. Send the date, the rough plan and how many of you there are, and you get a real number rather than a range.
